Me (solo project)
I was a user of the Sport Solution app, and could not help but discovering areas that could be improved even with just changes to the basic composition. The whole redesign process is a bigger project so I decided to focus on the main function of the app: The booking flow which in the current experience contains a very limited filtering feature.
New experience
Project Summary
The purpose of the solution is to sign up for gym classes at your local gym. You need to have a membership to the gym to get access to the app.
When using the current experience the user is presented with four options in the main menu (that can only be viewed from the first screen). The top option is Booking which navigates to a screen with 5 elements in the top that looks like filtering options. However the actual filtering when tapping one of the five filtering options are very limited and did not live up to expectations in many cases. Under the five elements all the classes for the current day is listed. The information presented in this screen fails to provide an opportunity to efficiently plan a weeks worth of workouts in most cases.
The redesign of the booking flow aims to align with users' mental model of filters and through that provide a more efficient way of planning multiple workout sessions over several days.
The Problem
There are a few areas of the booking flow that aren’t optimal in terms of logic and overall usability.
The logic of filtering options are flawed resulting in two issues:
-
The user is presented to information that isn’t relevant to them
-
The user is unable to compare information because the relevant information isn’t presented in one screen.
These two issues make it difficult for the user to plan their training sessions – the booking flow could be improved and made more logical to the user.
Breakdown of current experience
There are also some issues with basic composition and use of color, eg. dark gray text color on a dark background, making it difficult to read. I have designed new UI elements and compositions to eliminate these issues in the new design utilizing gestalt principles like the principles of proximity and similarity.
User Goals
We want to empower and motivate the user to plan and eventually go through with workout plans.
New experience
With the new solution we invite the user to plan ahead, get specific. We narrow it down and only present them to relevant options and then we clearly communicate when their options are applied.
Flow
The Result
With the redesign, users were able to more efficiently find workouts relevant to them. They quickly understood where to find the filters and how to use them, because they match the users expectations of what filters should looks like.
